So that's what I hear Sis say in a sleepy voice yesterday afternoon. Sis is not a napper, but when I called she was kind of drifting in and out of sleep as my nephew passed her the phone. I told her she wasn't making any sense and I'd call her back later. She said, "No, he's got a giant remote!" "It's a big remote!"
I was like, uh huh ... I'm at work so you call me back when you're awake. As I hung-up I could hear a lot of voices in the background and my sister saying something like "giant". There was scuffling, and then "click".
So after work I drop by and was telling my niece that Sis wasn't making sense earlier in the day, my niece is just laughing because she'd had a similar conversation with her. That's when Sis gets up and says, "No, I was making sense. Look at this!" That's when Bro-in-Law comes down the hallway holding his latest gadget. Sis is looking at me waiting for validation, and Bro-in-Law is standing there with this beaming look on his face, a look usually seen on the faces of little children under the Christmas Tree.
That's when he presents me with this!
It's a giant remote!
I stood there for a minute with my mouth gaping open, then I started laughing hysterically. I cried a little. Maybe even peed a little.
Then Bro-in-Law starts going on about how great it is. One of the best features? You can change the channel with your elbow. Yes. As he demonstrated ... it was very easy to do. That's when he looked at me and said, "And I don't wanna read about this on your blog either!" Damn, it was like he was begging me to do a post. But how could I not. Look at it!
It's a giant remote!
Sis grabs her camera, yes photos would be needed. That's a 12" ruler beside it. Yes, its almost 12 inches long, 5 inches wide and almost 1 inch thick. Click on the picture ... look at it up close ... it's Giant!
When Bro-in-Law first got home he told my nephew that he had something for him to do. We all need my nephew for technical stuff. Without him all the clocks would be flashing 12 and we'd be getting up and changing channels by hand.
When my nephew first held the remote in his hands, he just stood there staring at it ... then quietly said, "Jesus" which was unusual ... as Bro-in-Law later recounted, "I never heard him swear before." That's the effect the Giant Remote has on some people.
But the best of it? In the words of Sis, "The damn thing doesn't work!" Apparently it has something to do with the digital TV and their "entertainment system" ... and my nephew said he's not pulling it all apart just so we can use a "Giant Remote".
So now it's replaced the normal-sized remote that turned the TV on and off. For some reason Bro-in-Law has a remote to activate the TV and another to change channels. It's all very complicated. More so now that it takes 2 hands to lift the remote to turn the TV on. Of course, it can be turned on by an elbow, which is cool.
Later in the day Bro-in-Law tried to pawn off the Giant Remote to Sis. She has a TV in her office at the house. Her reply? "NO!" "It would take up half my desk!"
And she's right. Here it is beside a pen. Look at it!

38 Astute Observations:
BWAHAHAHAHA!!! That is SO funny! Especially you thinking your sis had not woken up properly - AND the darn thing not even working! LOL!
And thanks - you've given me an idea for today's post! Prepare to be linked again.
It IS giant!
Beautiful remote, but too big. Holding a remote should be like holding a Glock, comfortable to the hand.
LOL size does matter....
That really is GIANT. When I clicked on the photo its really giant!
whoa!
Well at least it won't get lost like ours always does! Too Big!!!!
jay - yes...the giant remote effects people differently, LOL
dave - it really IS!
hm - sometimes I'd like to shoot the tv.
april - but bigger doesn't mean it will work properly ;)
meleah - I know! It's kinda scary!
olga - HA! I didn't think of that. Kind of hard to lose that between the couch cushions! It's almost the size of the cushion! LOL
Too funny. We were going to get this giant remote last year for hubby' uncle. He turns 60 this year so I think we'll get it for him for his birthday.
Boys and their toys, eh?
Nothing like making me feel friggin' shorter.
I have to fist those buttons.
(on a side note...that's not the first time I've ever said that)
ha ha!!...a Man's Dream!......what next...lol
"It's so BIG!" she breathed. I'm sure that he bought it just for that reason. But I think that he's just overcompensating for something. ;-)
Hungry Mother must have an oddly-shaped hand, because Glocks have all the ergonomics of a brick. But they are very practical and effective, which is why I have two.
I bet he'll lose it *lol*
Marvin... a Glock fits nicely in my hand, thank you
rose - well, Bro-in-Law will be 60 this year ... so it sounds like a good plan.
val - no kidding.
moo - feeling inadequat?
darlene - I know, he was very happy :)
marvin ... med & HM ... what is it with American's and their guns? Y'all are scaring me!
Note: Apparently Bro-In-Law thought it was a good idea because he 'recycled' his normal sized remote last week.
He was looking for it, then my nephew found it in between newspapers in the recycle box. lol
He figured it would be much harder to misplace this one! Yeah!
I left a comment once but don't see it here now. Must be going screen crazy.
I've lost count of the 'one for all' remotes we've had and we still have to use four! That is so big it would need it's own coffee table ha ha!
My favorite part of the post was "And your not going to write about this on your blog!" :)
WOW gotta have one...:)))))
There is one reason and one reason only to have this remote ..... YOU NEVER LOOSE IT!!! I like that idea. Plus, a great opening line ... "Why is that thing ..."
Well, you see miss ...
Sorry
Hey Drowsey, can I have it?? :~)
Hey, there is a hand commenting here ... whaaaaa?????? I never have any hands comment at my blog ... who is that hand?
babs - I don't get it, I have always only had 1 remote, lol. Weird! And yes, it takes up a lot of room!
barbara - I know...he was just begging me to do it! LOL
robert - you're such a guy!
speedy? A hand? huh? As for the remote, I'd gladly give it to you but I think bro-in-law is too happy with it, lol
That surely is one GIANT remote. Good grief! LOL
corrina - yes, it's a giant remote!
LOLOL! I need one of those....one that works. My husband is constantly hiding my remote. Yeah, let's see ya hide THIS one! You'd have to bury it in the back yard:)
I think my grandmother had a telephone with buttons that size.
Check out my new blog page ;O)
sprinkle - no kidding! LOL
lorelei - well, he will be 60 this year ;)
babs - love it! Especially the new avitar ... now who ever suggested that??? :D
Now that's what I'm talking about, I have 7 remotes, none as big, my wife thinks I'm crazy with all the remotes, I love to say remote, but even better I love using remotes, there is just something about remotes, especially big ones. I love remotes I do.
But, do you like remotes bob? It's hard to tell by what you said?!? LOL Why??? What's so great about remotes? I don't understand men! But y'all are handy to have around once in a while ;)
I believe that the invention of the remote control contributed to the "couch potato" syndrome. It seems to me that prior to their invention the walk across the room to change channels or volume meant that at least we got some exercise. IMO the fact that they are now becoming gigantic does not bode well. What's next? Will they be hung from IV poles and have us connected to them ... perish the thought. :P
A real couch potato would watch whatever was on even if it was boring, rather than get up and change the channel. Not that I speak from first hand experience ;)
I guess it's the new sports car.
oh my god that is funny! And how very rebellious to go for HUGE when everyone else is going for tiny!
And, we love canadians . . . and absolutely celebrate Victoria Day so that we might drink more beer!
That is great! Yep, that remote is huge! And the fact that it doesn't work is even better! Thanks for sharing!
This remote would be hard to lose down the back of the sofa.
lauren - well, bro-in-law does have a rather snazzy antique car that he's restored ... and a fine collection of model cars ... lol
bongo ... eh! Yes, you're right it is rebellious, I hadn't thought of that! Some of those new cell phones are so tiny they're almost not there.
julie- he's still determined to get it working tho!
christine - lol, no kidding! If you sat on it by mistake that could be dangerous too!
My Dad's got one of those!
and he has managed to lose it. twice.
jeni ... NO?!? OMG that's too funny LOL
